What is a Harmonised Tariff Schedule (HTS) code or Harmonised System (HS) code?
The Harmonised Tariff Schedule (HTS) code is the abbreviated term for the Harmonised Tariff Schedule. This tariff schedule is established by the World Customs Organisation (WCO) to define and classify imported goods. In most cases, traded products must be assigned an HTS code corresponding to the destination country's Harmonised Tariff Schedule to ensure smooth import and export procedures.
Are HTS and HS codes identical? They serve the same function. HTS codes follow an 8–10-digit standard format, with the first 6 digits constituting the HS code. Utilising HTS/HS codes renders commodity classification identification straightforward.
